Pink Meerkat is an upcoming LGBTQ+ festival to be hosted in Upington, Northern Cape, dedicated to celebrating diversity, creating safe spaces, promoting inclusion, and contributing to community upliftment.

Vision Statement

Pink Meerkat envisions an inclusive, vibrant, and empowered future where every LGBTQIA+ person in Upington, the Northern Cape, and beyond is celebrated, respected, and free to live authentically.

We aspire to create a festival that becomes a beacon of diversity, acceptance, and unity, showcasing the richness of LGBTQIA+ culture while fostering understanding among all communities. Through celebration, education, advocacy, and community engagement, Pink Meerkat seeks to contribute to a society where equality, dignity, and human rights are upheld for everyone regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or sex characteristics.

Our vision is to establish Pink Meerkat as the leading Pride festival in the Northern Cape, attracting visitors from across South Africa and beyond while strengthening local communities, promoting social cohesion, and contributing to the economic and cultural growth of Upington.

Mission Statement

Pink Meerkat exists to celebrate LGBTQIA+ identities, promote inclusion, inspire pride, and create safe spaces where diversity is embraced and every individual feels seen, valued, and empowered.

We fulfill our mission by:

  1. Organising an annual Pride festival that celebrates LGBTQIA+ culture, history, creativity, and achievements.
  2. Providing safe and welcoming spaces where people can connect, express themselves freely, and build meaningful relationships.
  3. Raising awareness about equality, diversity, and human rights through educational programmes, workshops, and community initiatives.
  4. Encouraging collaboration between LGBTQIA+ communities, local businesses, organisations, government institutions, and allies.
  5. Showcasing local talent, artists, performers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.
  6. Promoting tourism and economic development in Upington through a world-class festival experience.
  7. Supporting mental health, well-being, and community resilience through advocacy and access to resources.
  8. Creating opportunities for dialogue that foster understanding, respect, and social inclusion across all communities.
